Privacy Policy

Community Autism Resources (CAR) is a nonprofit serving autistic individuals and their families across southeastern Massachusetts. This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what we do with it. It covers the website only. When you join a CAR program, the information you share with us is handled through that program’s own paperwork and the state’s requirements, not through this page.

The short version: we collect only what we need to answer you, run events and accept donations. We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone.

What we collect

What you choose to send us. When you fill out the contact form, sign up for our newsletter, register for an event, ask about volunteering or sponsorship, or make a donation, we receive what you enter. That is usually your name, email address and phone number, plus whatever you write in your message. Donations and some event registrations also ask for a mailing address and payment details.

Your ZIP code, when you look for events. CAR’s programs and events are for people who live in our service area. An event that’s open to anyone says so. The events calendar asks for your ZIP code so it can show which events are open to you. Your ZIP stays in your own browser and isn’t sent to us.

What your browser tells us. Like most websites, ours records basic information about visits: the pages viewed, how long people stay, the kind of device and browser used, the website that sent you here, and your general location (city or region, never your street). We use Google Analytics for this. It tells us which pages families find useful and which ones need work. It doesn’t tell us who you are.

Please keep private details off the contact form

The contact form is for getting in touch, not for sharing medical, diagnostic or case information. You don’t need to tell us about a diagnosis, an evaluation or anything from a Department of Developmental Services (DDS) file to start a conversation. Give us a way to reach you and we’ll talk it through directly.

How we use it

  • To answer your questions and connect you with the right person at CAR

  • To send the newsletter, if you signed up for it

  • To register you for events, confirm your spot and share event updates

  • To process donations, send receipts and thank you

  • To understand how the website is used, so we can make it easier to find things

  • To keep the website secure and working

We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t build profiles of visitors.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the services that help us run the website and our work, and only what they need to do their part:

  • Framer, which hosts this website

  • Google Analytics, which measures how the website is used

  • Givebutter, which processes donations and paid registrations

  • JotForm and Microsoft Forms, which handle event registration and some intake forms

  • Mailchimp, which sends our weekly newsletter

  • Embedded video and map services, when a page shows a video or a map

Each of these companies has its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to read the ones that matter to you. Payment details go straight to Givebutter; CAR never sees or stores your full card number.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or if we need to in order to protect someone’s safety.

We never sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Donors

When you give, we receive your name, contact information, the amount of your gift and any dedication you include, such as a gift in memory of someone. We use it to process your gift, send your receipt, thank you, and keep accurate records.

We list sponsors and community partners on the website. We only name individual donors publicly with their permission. If you’d like to stop receiving fundraising messages from us, tell us and we’ll take you off the list.

Cookies and your choices

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use them to measure visits through Google Analytics and to make donation and registration forms work. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some forms may not.

You can also stop Google Analytics from recording your visits with Google’s browser opt-out add-on, available from Google.

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard yet for how websites should respond to it, so this site doesn’t change its behavior when it receives one.

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time.

Children

This website is written for parents, caregivers, adults and professionals. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them through the site. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Photos and stories

The people you see on this website appear with their permission or their family’s. If you see a photo of yourself or your child that you’d like taken down, contact us and we’ll remove it.

How long we keep it and how we protect it

We keep information only as long as we need it for the reason you gave it to us, or as long as the law or our funders require. We use reasonable safeguards to protect it, and we limit who at CAR can see it. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so please don’t send anything through the site you wouldn’t want to share by email.

Seeing, correcting or deleting your information

You can ask us what personal information we have from you through this website, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email or call us and we’ll take care of it. We may need to keep some records, such as donation receipts, where the law requires it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top.
