A woman in glasses and a green T-shirt sits on the grass in plastic gloves holding a dye bottle as a student in a green tie-dye Gottschall Access Program shirt leans in to help.

Disclaimer

Community Autism Resources (CAR) built this website to help autistic individuals, families and the people who support them find their way to the right help. This page explains what the information here is, and what it isn’t. By using the site, you agree to the terms below.

General information, not professional advice

What you read on this website is general information. It isn’t medical, clinical, psychological, legal, financial or educational advice, and it can’t replace advice from a professional who knows you or your family. Every person is different. Talk with your own doctor, clinician, attorney or school team before making decisions based on something you read here.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. If you or someone you love is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Programs, eligibility and costs

We describe our programs as clearly as we can, but a page can’t answer every situation. Whether a program fits, and whether you’re eligible, is worked out with you directly. Many CAR programs need a referral and authorization from the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and every program requires that you live in our service area. Program details, schedules, ages, costs and eligibility can change, sometimes because state rules or funding change. Call us before relying on anything here.

Nothing on this website is a promise of service. Reading a page or sending a message doesn’t enroll you in a program.

Resources and other organizations

When we point you to a provider, a resource or another organization, it’s because families have found it useful, not because CAR endorses it or can vouch for it. CAR doesn’t control the services other organizations provide and isn’t responsible for them. Look into any provider yourself, and ask questions, before you choose one.

Links to other websites

This site links to other websites, including state agencies, partner organizations and the services we use for donations and registration. We don’t control those websites and aren’t responsible for what they say or how they handle your information. A link isn’t an endorsement. Government pages in particular change often, so check the source for the current version.

Events

Some events ask you to register and some are drop-in, and each event says which. Event dates, times, places and costs can change. Events are for people who live in our service area unless the event says otherwise, and some have their own terms. If you need an accommodation to attend, call or email us before the event and we’ll work it out with you.

Stories and experiences

The stories on this website belong to real people, shared with their permission. They describe one person’s or one family’s experience. Yours may be different.

Donations

Online gifts are processed by Givebutter. You’ll receive a receipt for your records. Talk with a tax advisor about whether your gift is tax-deductible for you. If you think a gift was made in error, contact us as soon as possible and we’ll help.

Using what’s on this site

The words, photos, videos, logos and designs on this website belong to Community Autism Resources or are used with permission. You’re welcome to link to any page and to share our pages and event information. Please don’t copy or reuse our photos and videos, especially images of people, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you, without asking us first.

Accuracy

We work to keep this website accurate and current, but we can’t promise that every detail is complete, correct or up to date at every moment. If you spot something wrong, please tell us.

Limits of our responsibility

This website is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, CAR isn’t responsible for any loss or harm that comes from using the site, relying on its information, or using a website or service it links to. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
